Shelby For Sale

Search our Shelby cars for sale at Pedal to the Metal. Carroll Shelby won the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans for Aston Martin, and after retiring from driving he founded Shelby American in California in 1962. Its first car was the Cobra, an AC roadster with a Ford V8, followed by the Cobra-based Daytona Coupé, the Mustang-based GT350 and GT500, and work on Ford’s Le Mans-winning GT40 programme. Later Shelby projects include Dodge performance cars in the 1980s, the 1999 Series 1 roadster and a renewed partnership with Ford from 2005. Our Shelby range covers original cars, Shelby-licensed continuation cars and modern Shelby models.

If your ideal Shelby isn’t in our current inventory, we can help you find it. PTTM sources high-quality classic and collector cars, with worldwide delivery available.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Choose by era and use. The Shelby Cobra is the open roadster of 1962–1967, with 260, 289 and 427 V8s, and the Shelby Daytona is its closed racing coupé, of which six originals were built. The Shelby GT350 and GT500 are Mustang-based cars from 1965 to 1970 and again from 2007. The Shelby Series 1 is a 1999 aluminium-chassis roadster with an Oldsmobile V8.

For the Cobra and Daytona, Shelby-licensed continuation cars are often the practical choice. Cobra-style cars by other builders are listed under their own make, such as Pilgrim Cobra.

Shelby American, Inc. was founded in 1962 and built the Cobra, the Daytona and the 1965–1967 GT350 and GT500. Ford took control of Shelby Mustang production from 1968. Shelby Automobiles, founded in 1983, built Chrysler-based cars until about 1990, and Carroll Shelby International was formed in 2003. A new Shelby American was later established in Las Vegas, where it builds continuation Cobras and modified Mustangs. Ford Shelby models, such as the 2007–2022 GT500, were built by Ford and sold through Ford dealers. Badging follows the same lines. Cobras sold by AC in Europe wear AC badges, the 1968–1970 cars were marketed as the Shelby Cobra GT350 and GT500, and modern Ford Shelbys carry Shelby badges on a Ford VIN.

Start with identity, because Shelby names and badges are widely copied. For classic cars, confirm the CSX or Shelby serial number and its history through the Shelby American Automobile Club registry and period records. For continuation cars and modern Shelby American cars, check the Shelby serial number and register entry. For Ford-built Shelbys, the Ford VIN and window sticker confirm the model. Then inspect the car for rust, accident repair and the quality of any later work.

On restomod and pro-touring cars, judge the quality of the components and workmanship. PTTM can share the information available on a car and discuss any further inspection.

Model, authenticity and history set the starting point. An original Cobra or Daytona with documented history, a 1965 GT350 or a 1967 GT500 sits in a very different market from a continuation car or a modern Ford-built Shelby. Limited editions, such as the Hertz cars, the GT500KR or the supercharged Series 1, carry their own premiums. Within any car, value reflects originality, documentation, factory options, mileage, condition and colour.

Unrestored survivors, restored cars and professionally built restomods are each valued on different terms. Compare the whole car and its records alongside the price, and PTTM can help you define a realistic search.

Registration or title documents with a chassis number or VIN matching the car are the foundation. Classic Shelbys should be supported by their serial number, registry entry and period history, and for Ford-built cars from 1967 onwards a Marti Report can confirm original equipment. Continuation cars should come with their Shelby register entry and builder’s paperwork, and modern cars with their window sticker and service records. Imported cars should carry their import papers, and PTTM’s Registration Service can guide European registration.

Yes, PTTM can assess your current car and discuss a trade-in towards a Shelby purchase. Send us its make, model, year, mileage, photographs and available history, along with details of the car you are interested in. Trade-ins are not automatic: each proposal is considered individually, based on condition, documentation and market demand.

Possible structures include equal-value exchanges and trades with a cash adjustment on either side, agreed transparently in advance.

Shelby cars carry a strong racing history. Carroll Shelby won Le Mans in 1959 in an Aston Martin DBR1 with Roy Salvadori, the Daytona Coupé won the GT class there in 1964, and in 1965 Shelby became the first American constructor to win the International Championship for GT Manufacturers. Shelby also helped develop the Ford GT40, which won Le Mans four years running from 1966. Carroll Shelby died in 2012, and his name continues on licensed cars. A well-sorted driver can be as rewarding as a concours restoration.

It depends on how you plan to use the car. A Cobra or Series 1 is an open two-seater for dry-weather driving and track days, while a Daytona is a closed coupé with a racing shape. A classic GT350 or GT500 offers V8 muscle-car character, and a modern Ford-built GT500 combines high performance with everyday usability. An original or factory-correct restored car suits buyers who value authenticity. PTTM offers factory-correct restorations and custom restomod and pro-touring builds.

Yes. Our Personalized Car Search service can look beyond our current inventory. Tell us your preferred model and year, whether original, continuation or modern, your specification, and colour, condition and budget.

We identify suitable cars and help assess their condition, history and authenticity. Original Cobras and Daytonas, 1965 GT350s, GT500KRs, supercharged Series 1 cars and limited editions can take longer to find, and we will give you an honest expectation of timing. Search terms are agreed before we begin, and you are never obliged to proceed with a car we present.

Yes. PTTM works with buyers across Europe and overseas and can coordinate transport to your country. Within Europe, cars travel by road with our own trailers or trusted partners. Intercontinental deliveries normally go by sea freight, and air freight is available on request. We confirm the transport method, insurance, costs and estimated timing for your destination before you commit. Import requirements vary by country, so share your destination when enquiring and we can explain the options.
