Shelby GT350 and GT500 For Sale

Look through Shelby GT350s and GT500s for sale at Pedal to the Metal. The GT350 arrived for 1965 as a Mustang fastback re-engineered by Shelby American, with a 306 bhp 289 V8, and the 428-powered GT500 joined it for 1967. Production moved to Michigan under closer Ford control from 1968, when the cars were marketed as the Shelby Cobra GT350 and GT500 and the GT500KR followed. The original series ended with 1970-titled 1969 cars. The names returned on Ford-built cars, the supercharged GT500 from 2007, the flat-plane-crank GT350 from 2015 and the 760 hp GT500 from 2020, alongside Shelby American’s own modified cars.

If your ideal Shelby isn’t in our current inventory, we can help you find it. PTTM sources high-quality classic and collector cars, with worldwide delivery available.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Choose by era and by how you plan to use the car. The 1965–1967 cars were built by Shelby American in California, with the 1965 GT350 the most competition-focused. The 1968–1970 cars are more comfortable and include convertibles, the GT500KR and, for 1969, the 351 V8 in the GT350.

The 2007–2014 GT500 is a supercharged Ford-built car, rising from 500 to 662 hp. The 2015–2020 GT350 uses a 526 hp 5.2 Voodoo V8 with a flat-plane crank, and the 2020–2022 GT500 a 760 hp supercharged 5.2 Predator V8.

Shelby American is Carroll Shelby’s company. It built the 1965–1967 GT350 and GT500 from Ford Mustangs, and today it modifies new Mustangs into its own models, such as the Super Snake, GT-H and GT500-H, which receive a Shelby serial number. Ford took control of production from 1968, and the 2007–2022 GT500 and GT350 were built by Ford and sold through Ford dealers, which is why they are often called Ford Shelby or Ford Mustang Shelby models. Shelby Mustang is an informal umbrella term. The actual model names are Shelby GT350 and GT500, with Shelby Cobra GT350 and GT500 for 1968–1970.

Start with identity, because clones are common. On a 1965–1970 car, check the Shelby serial number against the Ford VIN and the records of the Shelby American Automobile Club. On a modern Ford Shelby, the Ford VIN and window sticker confirm the model, while a Shelby American car should also carry its Shelby serial number and registry entry. Eleanor recreations and other lookalikes are not Shelby products. Then check classic cars for rust and repairs, and modern ones for service and recall history.

On restomod and pro-touring cars, judge the quality of the components and workmanship. PTTM can share the information available on a car and discuss any further inspection.

Year, model and history set the starting point. A 1965 GT350, a GT350R, a 1966 GT350H Hertz car, a 1967 GT500 or a GT500KR sits in a very different market from a later modern car, and convertibles add interest. On modern cars, the model, the edition and the mileage matter most, with limited Shelby American editions valued on their own terms. Within any car, value reflects originality, documentation, factory options, condition and colour.

Unrestored survivors, restored cars and professionally built restomods are each valued on different terms. Compare the whole car and its records alongside the price, and PTTM can help you define a realistic search.

Registration or title documents with a VIN matching the car are the foundation. A 1965–1970 Shelby should be supported by its Shelby serial number and registry entry, and for 1967 and later cars a Marti Report based on Ford’s production records can confirm original equipment. A modern Ford Shelby should come with its window sticker and service records, and a Shelby American car with its Shelby documentation. Imported cars should carry their import papers, and PTTM’s Registration Service can guide European registration.

Yes, PTTM can assess your current car and discuss a trade-in towards a Shelby purchase. Send us its make, model, year, mileage, photographs and available history, along with details of the car you are interested in. Trade-ins are not automatic: each proposal is considered individually, based on condition, documentation and market demand.

Possible structures include equal-value exchanges and trades with a cash adjustment on either side, agreed transparently in advance.

The classic cars link the Mustang with Carroll Shelby’s racing operation. Only 562 GT350s were built for 1965, including 34 race-specification GT350Rs. For 1966, Hertz bought 1,003 GT350H fastbacks for its rental fleet, and 2,048 GT500s were built for 1967. No new cars were made for 1970, when 789 unsold 1969 cars received 1970 VINs. Modern limited editions continue the story, including the 2006 GT-H and 2022 GT500-H for Hertz. A well-sorted driver can be as rewarding as a concours restoration.

It depends on how you plan to use the car. A 1965–1966 GT350 is the most raw and competition-focused, while the 1967–1970 cars and convertibles suit touring. The modern GT350 rewards track driving, and the modern GT500 combines very high performance with everyday usability. An original or factory-correct restored car suits buyers who value authenticity, while a restomod adds modern brakes, suspension and comfort to a classic. PTTM offers both, from factory-correct restorations to custom restomod and pro-touring builds.

Yes. Our Personalized Car Search service can look beyond our current inventory. Tell us your preferred model and year, body style and transmission, whether original or modified, and colour, mileage, condition and budget.

We identify suitable cars and help assess their condition, history and authenticity. 1965 GT350s, GT350Hs, 1967 GT500s, GT500KRs, convertibles and limited Shelby American editions can take longer to find, and we will give you an honest expectation of timing. Search terms are agreed before we begin, and you are never obliged to proceed with a car we present.

Yes. PTTM works with buyers across Europe and overseas and can coordinate transport to your country. Within Europe, cars travel by road with our own trailers or trusted partners. Intercontinental deliveries normally go by sea freight, and air freight is available on request. We confirm the transport method, insurance, costs and estimated timing for your destination before you commit. Import requirements vary by country, so share your destination when enquiring and we can explain the options.
