Pontiac GTO For Sale

Shop Pontiac GTOs for sale at Pedal to the Metal. The GTO began as a 1964 option package on the Tempest LeMans, using a loophole in GM’s 330 cubic-inch limit for intermediates to fit the 389 V8, and its name was taken from the Ferrari 250 GTO. It became a separate model for 1966, offered as a coupé, hardtop and convertible, and the 400 replaced the 389 for 1967. Later highlights include the 1968 Endura nose, The Judge of 1969–1971, Ram Air engines and the 1970 455. The original line ended in 1974, and the name returned for 2004–2006 on a V8 coupé based on the Holden Monaro.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Choose by era, body style and engine. The 1964–1967 cars are the original GTOs, with the 389 and Tri-Power for 1964–1966 and the 400 from 1967. The 1968–1972 cars have the Endura front bumper and include The Judge, the Ram Air engines and the 455 from 1970. For 1972 the GTO returned to being a LeMans option.

The 1973 car adopted Colonnade styling, and the 1974 GTO was an option on the compact Ventura. The 2004–2006 GTO is a modern coupé with the LS1 or LS2 V8 and a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

They mark the key performance versions. Tri-Power, three two-barrel carburettors on the 389, was offered until 1966, when the 400 with a single Quadrajet replaced it. Ram Air engines fed cool air through the bonnet scoops, and the Ram Air IV was rated at 370 hp in 1969. The Judge was a performance and appearance package for 1969 to 1971, and the 455 arrived for 1970. A three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic with a Hurst dual-gate shifter became available for 1967.

Start with identity, because many LeMans and Tempest cars have been turned into GTO clones, and Judge and Ram Air claims are often added later. On 1966 and later cars the VIN identifies the GTO series, while on 1964–1965 cars, when the GTO was an option, the billing history is the clearest proof. Check that the cowl tag, engine codes and documentation match the car. Then inspect the frame, floors, rear quarters and lower panels for rust and previous repairs.

On restomod and pro-touring cars, judge the quality of the components and workmanship. PTTM can share the information available on a car and discuss any further inspection.

Year, body style and specification set the starting point. A documented Judge, a Ram Air III or IV car, a Tri-Power 389, a 455 or a convertible sits in a very different market from a later car with a smaller engine, and the four-speed manual adds interest. Within any specification, value reflects originality and matching drivetrain components, documentation and condition, factory options and colour.

Unrestored survivors, restored cars and professionally built pro-touring cars and restomods are each valued on different terms. Compare the whole car and its records alongside the price, and PTTM can help you define a realistic search.

Registration or title documents with a VIN matching the car are the foundation. For many classic Pontiacs, PHS Automotive Services, the successor to Pontiac Historic Services, can supply car-specific records such as dealer order forms and factory billing histories, which are especially useful on a GTO. The cowl tag records the body style, paint and trim. Original paperwork such as a window sticker adds weight where it survives. Imported cars should carry their import papers, and PTTM’s Registration Service can guide European registration.

Yes, PTTM can assess your current car and discuss a trade-in towards a Pontiac purchase. Send us its make, model, year, mileage, photographs and available history, along with details of the car you are interested in. Trade-ins are not automatic: each proposal is considered individually, based on condition, documentation and market demand.

Possible structures include equal-value exchanges and trades with a cash adjustment on either side, agreed transparently in advance.

The GTO is widely seen as the car that started the 1960s muscle car trend. Pontiac forecast 5,000 sales for 1964 and sold 32,450, and sales peaked at 96,946 in 1966. The 1968 GTO was Motor Trend’s Car of the Year. The Judge was built in small numbers, with 6,833 in 1969, 3,797 in 1970 and only 357 in 1971. Individual cars stand out through originality, documentation, rare options and condition, and a well-sorted driver can be as rewarding as a concours restoration.

It depends on how you plan to use the car. A convertible suits open-air touring, while the hardtop gives a pillarless profile. A 389 or 400 with a four-speed manual offers classic muscle-car involvement, while a Turbo-Hydramatic car suits relaxed cruising. The 2004–2006 GTO adds modern comfort and V8 performance. An original or factory-correct restored GTO suits buyers who value authenticity, while a restomod adds modern brakes, suspension and comfort. PTTM offers both, from factory-correct restorations to custom restomod and pro-touring builds.

Yes. Our Personalized Car Search service can look beyond our current inventory. Tell us your preferred year and body style, engine and transmission, whether original or modified, and colour, condition and budget.

We identify suitable cars and help assess their condition, history and authenticity. Documented Judges, Ram Air IV cars, Tri-Power cars, convertibles and four-speed cars with billing history can take longer to find, and we will give you an honest expectation of timing. Search terms are agreed before we begin, and you are never obliged to proceed with a car we present.

Yes. PTTM works with buyers across Europe and overseas and can coordinate transport to your country. Within Europe, cars travel by road with our own trailers or trusted partners. Intercontinental deliveries normally go by sea freight, and air freight is available on request. We confirm the transport method, insurance, costs and estimated timing for your destination before you commit. Import requirements vary by country, so share your destination when enquiring and we can explain the options.
