Frequently Asked Questions:

Choose by year, engine and package. The 1970–1973 cars offer the 340 V8, with the first-year 1970 cars marketed as the Valiant Duster and the Twister package added for 1971. The 1973 update brought revised front disc brakes, an optional metal sunroof and a fold-down rear seat option.

From 1974 the 360 V8 replaced the 340, and 1974 was the Duster’s best sales year. The lightweight Feather Duster followed for 1975, and production ended in 1976, when the Volaré took over. Dodge sold a twin, the Demon, renamed Dart Sport in 1973.

They mark the performance and special models. The Duster 340, from 1970 to 1973, combined the 340 V8 with chassis and appearance upgrades. The Duster 360 was a separate model for 1974 and later an option on any trim. The Twister was a 1971 package, and the Gold Duster a trim offered from mid-1970 to 1975. The Space Duster added a fold-down rear seat, and the 1975 Feather Duster used aluminium parts to save about 187 lb.

Start with identity, because Duster 340 and 360 clones are common. The VIN records the model and engine, and the fender tag records much of the factory specification. Check that both match the car, its documentation and its drivetrain, and check engine numbers where they survive. Then inspect the unibody structure, floors, rear quarters, boot floor and lower panels for rust and previous repairs.

On restomod and pro-touring cars, judge the quality of the components and workmanship. PTTM can share the information available on a car and discuss any further inspection.

Year, engine and package set the starting point. A documented Duster 340 or 360, especially with a four-speed manual, a Feather Duster or a Twister sits in a different market from a slant-six coupé. Within any specification, value reflects originality and matching drivetrain components, documentation and condition, factory options and colour.

Unrestored survivors, restored cars and professionally built pro-touring cars and restomods are each valued on different terms. Compare the whole car and its records alongside the price, and PTTM can help you define a realistic search.

Registration or title documents with a VIN matching the car are the foundation. On a Duster, the fender tag and the broadcast sheet, where it survives, record the factory build and can be decoded by Mopar specialists. Original paperwork such as a window sticker or dealer invoice adds weight where it survives. Restoration invoices and photographs show what has been done since. Imported cars should carry their import papers, and PTTM’s Registration Service can guide European registration.

Yes, PTTM can assess your current car and discuss a trade-in towards a Plymouth purchase. Send us its make, model, year, mileage, photographs and available history, along with details of the car you are interested in. Trade-ins are not automatic: each proposal is considered individually, based on condition, documentation and market demand.

Possible structures include equal-value exchanges and trades with a cash adjustment on either side, agreed transparently in advance.

The Duster was a strong success for Plymouth. Developed for a budget of $15 million, it sold more than 217,000 cars in its first year, outselling the Valiant sedan by more than four to one, and nearly 25,000 of those were Duster 340s. Sales peaked at 281,378 in 1974. Its mix of compact size, light weight and V8 performance made the 340 and 360 cars popular with enthusiasts. Individual cars stand out through originality, documentation, rare options and condition, and a well-sorted driver can be as rewarding as a concours restoration.

It depends on how you plan to use the car. The Duster is a compact coupé that is easy to drive and park. A slant six or 318 suits relaxed use, while the 340 and 360 cars deliver more performance, and the fold-down rear seat adds practicality. An original or factory-correct restored Duster suits buyers who value authenticity, while a restomod adds modern brakes, suspension and comfort for regular use. PTTM offers both, from factory-correct restorations to custom restomod and pro-touring builds. Tell your sales advisor how and how often you plan to drive.

Yes. Our Personalized Car Search service can look beyond our current inventory. Tell us your preferred year and engine, transmission and package, whether original or modified, and colour, condition and budget.

We identify suitable cars and help assess their condition, history and authenticity. Documented Duster 340 and 360 cars with four-speed gearboxes, Feather Dusters, Twisters and unmodified survivors can take longer to find, and we will give you an honest expectation of timing. Search terms are agreed before we begin, and you are never obliged to proceed with a car we present.

Yes. PTTM works with buyers across Europe and overseas and can coordinate transport to your country. Within Europe, cars travel by road with our own trailers or trusted partners. Intercontinental deliveries normally go by sea freight, and air freight is available on request. We confirm the transport method, insurance, costs and estimated timing for your destination before you commit. Import requirements vary by country, so share your destination when enquiring and we can explain the options.
