Explore Ford Galaxies for sale at Pedal to the Metal. Ford’s full-size Galaxie was sold in North America for the 1959–1974 model years, as hardtops, sedans, convertibles and Country Squire wagons. Distinctive versions include the 1960–1961 Starliner hardtop, the bucket-seat Galaxie 500/XL from 1962 and the 1963½ fastback. Engines ranged from the 223 and 240 sixes to the 352, 390, 406, 427, 428 and 429 V8s, with three- and four-speed manual gearboxes or the Ford-O-Matic and Cruise-O-Matic automatics. The 1966 Galaxie 500 7 Litre paired the 428 with standard front disc brakes and bucket seats.
If your ideal Ford isn’t in our current inventory, we can help you find it. PTTM sources high-quality classic and collector cars, with worldwide delivery available.
Choose by era, body style and engine. The 1959 cars include the retractable-hardtop Skyliner. The 1960–1964 cars offer the Starliner hardtop of 1960–1961, the Club Victoria from 1961, the 500/XL from 1962 and the 1963½ fastback, with the 406 and 427 big-blocks.
The 1965–1968 cars brought stacked dual headlamps, the LTD and the 428-powered 7 Litre. The 1969–1974 cars moved to a new 121-inch wheelbase platform, and 1974 was the final year for the Galaxie name before Ford’s full-size range became the LTD.
They mark the higher trims and performance versions. The Galaxie 500 sat above the base Galaxie, and the 500/XL, from 1962, was the bucket-seat sporty model. Ford explained XL as Xtra Lively. The LTD arrived as the flagship Galaxie 500 LTD for 1965 and became a separate model for 1966. The 1966 Galaxie 500 7 Litre used the 428 V8, then became a trim of the separate XL for 1967. The 427 was introduced for racing in 1963½.
Start with identity, because XL, 7 Litre and big-block claims are easy to recreate. The VIN includes an engine code, and the door data plate records the body style, colour, trim, build date, transmission and axle. Check that both match the car, its documentation and its drivetrain, especially on 406, 427 and 428 cars, and check engine and part numbers where they survive. Then inspect the frame, floors, rear quarters and lower panels for rust and previous repairs.
On restomod and pro-touring cars, judge the quality of the components and workmanship. PTTM can share the information available on a car and discuss any further inspection.
Year, body style and engine set the starting point. A documented 406 or 427 car, a 1963½ fastback with a big-block, a 7 Litre, an XL convertible or a Starliner sits in a very different market from a six-cylinder sedan. Within any specification, value reflects originality and matching drivetrain components, documentation and condition, factory options and colour.
Unrestored survivors, restored cars and professionally built pro-touring cars and restomods are each valued on different terms. Compare the whole car and its records alongside the price, and PTTM can help you define a realistic search.
Registration or title documents with a VIN matching the car are the foundation. The door data plate records the factory specification, and for 1967 and later Fords, a Marti Report based on Ford’s production records can confirm a car’s original equipment. Original paperwork such as a window sticker or dealer invoice adds weight where it survives. Restoration invoices and photographs show what has been done since. Imported cars should carry their import papers, and PTTM’s Registration Service can guide European registration.
Yes, PTTM can assess your current car and discuss a trade-in towards a Ford purchase. Send us its make, model, year, mileage, photographs and available history, along with details of the car you are interested in. Trade-ins are not automatic: each proposal is considered individually, based on condition, documentation and market demand.
Possible structures include equal-value exchanges and trades with a cash adjustment on either side, agreed transparently in advance.
The Galaxie was Ford’s mainstream full-size car through the 1960s, and production reached 648,010 in 1963. Its racing history includes the 1963½ fastback, shaped to be more competitive in NASCAR, and Jack Sears’s 1963 British Saloon Car Championship title in Galaxies. In 1966 the Galaxie 500 convertible was the third best-selling convertible in the United States. Individual cars stand out through originality, documentation, rare options and condition, and a well-sorted driver can be as rewarding as a concours restoration.
It depends on how you plan to use the car. A convertible suits open-air touring, a hardtop gives a pillarless profile, and sedans and Country Squire wagons offer room for passengers and luggage. A 352 or 390 with the Cruise-O-Matic suits relaxed touring, while 427 and 428 cars deliver more torque. An original or factory-correct restored Galaxie suits buyers who value authenticity. A restomod adds modern brakes, suspension and comfort for regular use. PTTM offers both, from factory-correct restorations to custom restomod and pro-touring builds. Tell your sales advisor how and how often you plan to drive, so we can recommend suitable cars or discuss a project.
Yes. Our Personalized Car Search service can look beyond our current inventory. Tell us your preferred year and body style, engine and transmission, whether original or modified, and colour, condition and budget.
We identify suitable cars and help assess their condition, history and authenticity. Documented 406 and 427 cars, 1963½ fastbacks, 7 Litres, XL convertibles, Starliners and Skyliners can take longer to find, and we will give you an honest expectation of timing. Search terms are agreed before we begin, and you are never obliged to proceed with a car we present.
Yes. PTTM works with buyers across Europe and overseas and can coordinate transport to your country. Within Europe, cars travel by road with our own trailers or trusted partners. Intercontinental deliveries normally go by sea freight, and air freight is available on request. We confirm the transport method, insurance, costs and estimated timing for your destination before you commit. Import requirements vary by country, so share your destination when enquiring and we can explain the options.
We’re happy to discuss your plans and advise on the right next steps. Whether you’re considering a purchase, planning a restoration or build, or exploring options for selling or registration.
