Ford T-Bucket For Sale

View Ford T-Buckets for sale at Pedal to the Metal. A T-Bucket is a hot rod built around the two-seat body of the 1915–1927 Ford Model T, often with a turtle deck or a small pickup box behind the seats. The style took off in the 1950s after Norm Grabowski’s car, built from a 1922 Model T body, appeared on the cover of Hot Rod in 1955 and on television in 77 Sunset Strip. Most modern T-Buckets use replica fibreglass bodies, first offered in 1957, on a custom chassis with an exposed V8, often a small-block Chevrolet, a Model T-style radiator and large rear tyres.

If your ideal Ford isn’t in our current inventory, we can help you find it. PTTM sources high-quality classic and collector cars, with worldwide delivery available.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Choose by body, style and drivetrain. Some T-Buckets use an original steel Model T body, while most use a replica fibreglass body, which is lighter and easier to source. The rear can carry a turtle deck or a small pickup box. Builds range from traditional 1950s-style cars to modern street rods with fuel injection or a supercharger.

If you want an unmodified car, an original Ford Model T is a different proposition. About 15 million were built between 1908 and 1927, with a 20 hp four-cylinder engine and a planetary transmission.

Most T-Buckets use a V8, and the small-block Chevrolet is a common choice, though four-cylinder engines, superchargers and fuel injection also appear. Because the car is so light, the engine often produces more power than it can use, and part of its role is visual. Look at the whole drivetrain rather than the engine alone. The gearbox, rear axle, brakes and tyres should suit the power, and the narrow front wheels and large rear tyres typical of the style affect how the car drives.

Every T-Bucket is individually built, so start with who built it, from which components and how it is registered. Check that the registration documents match the chassis and that the description of the body, engine and gearbox matches the car. Then inspect the quality of the chassis welds, steering, suspension and brakes, the wiring and fuel system, the cooling, and how the body is mounted. On fibreglass bodies, look for cracks and repairs.

PTTM can share the information available on a car and discuss any further inspection.

Build quality and components set the starting point. A car with a documented builder, quality chassis work and well-matched engine, gearbox, axle and brakes sits in a very different market from an unfinished or poorly documented build. An original steel body, period parts and a known history add interest, and road registration in Europe adds value in practical terms. Within any car, value reflects condition, finish, documentation and mileage.

Original cars, restored cars and professionally built hot rods and restomods are each valued on different terms. Compare the whole car and its records alongside the price, and PTTM can help you define a realistic search.

Registration or title documents that match the car are the foundation. For a T-Bucket, the builder’s records, parts invoices, specifications of the engine, gearbox and axle, and photographs of the build show how the car was made. Any inspection or approval documents from its road registration add weight. Imported cars should carry their import papers, and PTTM’s Registration Service can guide inspection and European registration.

Yes, PTTM can assess your current car and discuss a trade-in towards a Ford purchase. Send us its make, model, year, mileage, photographs and available history, along with details of the car you are interested in. Trade-ins are not automatic: each proposal is considered individually, based on condition, documentation and market demand.

Possible structures include equal-value exchanges and trades with a cash adjustment on either side, agreed transparently in advance.

The T-Bucket links the Model T, of which about 15 million were built, with the 1950s Californian hot rod scene. Norm Grabowski’s car appeared in LIFE in April 1957 and became famous as the car of Edd Byrnes’s character Kookie in 77 Sunset Strip. Tommy Ivo built his own 1925 T-Bucket in response. Grabowski’s restored car was shown at Pebble Beach in 2019. Individual cars stand out through build quality, documentation, period details and condition, and a well-sorted driver can be as rewarding as a concours car.

It depends on how you plan to use the car. A T-Bucket is an open two-seater with little weather protection and limited luggage space, so it suits short runs, cruising and shows. A traditional build suits buyers who want period character, while a modern build with fuel injection and upgraded brakes suits more regular use. PTTM’s restorations and custom builds can also cover a project. Tell your sales advisor how and how often you plan to drive, so we can recommend suitable cars.

Yes. PTTM works with buyers across Europe and overseas and can coordinate transport to your country. Within Europe, cars travel by road with our own trailers or trusted partners. Intercontinental deliveries normally go by sea freight, and air freight is available on request. We confirm the transport method, insurance, costs and estimated timing for your destination before you commit. Import requirements vary by country, so share your destination when enquiring and we can explain the options.

Yes. Our Personalized Car Search service can look beyond our current inventory. Tell us your preferred body and style, engine and transmission, registration needs, and colour, condition and budget.

We identify suitable cars and help assess their condition, history and authenticity. Steel-bodied cars, traditional 1950s-style builds, cars from known builders and cars already registered in Europe can take longer to find, and we will give you an honest expectation of timing. Search terms are agreed before we begin, and you are never obliged to proceed with a car we present.
