Dodge Challenger R/T440 | Fully Restored

1970 DODGE CHALLENGER R/T - 440 MAGNUM V8 - 4-SPEED PISTOL GRIP - PLUM CRAZY - NUT AND BOLT RESTORED

This 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T was factory correct restored to the rare configuration it left the factory in: Plum Crazy over a white and black high trim bucket seat interior, with a matching full white vinyl roof, finished from the ground up in our own workshop a few years ago to the highest standard. Since the restoration it has lived in a private local collection, started on sunny days and otherwise left alone, so it presents today essentially as new. Restoring a Challenger to this standard today would easily run to about double the asking price, and this one is already done.

THE CAR
This is a genuine R/T, confirmed by the fender tag and VIN: model code JS23, Dodge Challenger R/T two door hardtop, broadcast as a 440 cubic inch four barrel High Performance car, engine code U in the VIN and E86 on the fender tag, factory rated at 375 horsepower. It was built in January 1970, build date 121, at the Los Angeles assembly plant, VIN suffix E, VIN sequence 128307, order number 172776. It left the factory paired with the desirable A833 four speed manual, code D21, and its Hurst pistol grip shifter, backed by the Track Pak option, code A33, with a 3.54 geared Sure-Grip rear axle, exactly the combination collectors look for on a 440 car. Power brakes, code B51, the Rallye instrument cluster with tachometer, codes A62 and N85, and a console with woodgrain panel, code C16, round out a genuinely well equipped car for the era. The restoration was carried out entirely in our own workshop, nut and bolt, to the highest standard, and the car has spent the years since in a private local collection, driven sparingly and only in good weather, which is exactly why it still presents as new today.

EXTERIOR
Finished in Plum Crazy, code FC7, one of the most sought after High Impact colors Chrysler ever offered, paired here with the factory-correct full white vinyl roof and black longitudinal body stripe, codes V1W and V5X, rather than anything repainted or altered from what the car left the factory wearing. The sport hood, code J54, with its hood pins, code J45, the dual racing mirrors, code G36, the chrome exhaust tips, code N42, and the roof drip rail moldings, code M21, are all present and correct. Panel gaps, paint, and chrome all show the result of a proper nut and bolt restoration rather than a cosmetic respray, and years of sparing, sunny day use since have kept it that way.

INTERIOR
Inside, the bucket seats and door panels are trimmed in the car's original high trim white and black combination, code H6XW, a striking, factory-correct look that few 440 cars left the plant wearing. The console with its woodgrain panel, the Rallye instrument cluster with tachometer, and the solid state AM radio are all present, and everything works and looks the way it did when the restoration was completed. Driven only occasionally and only in good weather since, the cabin shows next to no wear.

Genuine 440 R/T four speeds in a documented, factory-correct color combination like this one are becoming difficult to find, let alone in this condition and with a restoration this thorough behind them. This is a car that has already had the hard, expensive part done for you, to the highest standard, and then been driven exactly as sparingly as a car like this should be. For a collector after a factory-correct, ground-up restored Challenger R/T rather than a project, this is a rare opportunity.
