1969 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible -- 383 Magnum, Numbers Matching, 4-Speed, 1 of 769, Bucket Seats, Console, Power Disc Brakes
In 1969, Plymouth built 769 Road Runner convertibles with a 4-speed manual gearbox. This is one of them. And with the options this car carries, it is one of the most desirable configurations a Road Runner convertible can have.

The Road Runner was conceived as the no-nonsense muscle car -- big engine, stripped interior, low price. Which is exactly what makes a car like this so rare. Bucket seats, centre console, power steering, power disc brakes and a 4-speed were not what most Road Runner buyers ordered. The vast majority left the factory with a bench seat, column-shift automatic, and nothing extra. This one was built differently, and it shows.

The car
Finished in Honey Bronze, one of the more distinctive factory colours of the era -- a warm metallic that catches the light beautifully and suits the Road Runner's muscular proportions perfectly. The optional red stripe decals run the length of the body, and the matte black hood stripes are painted on, exactly as they left the factory. The body is straight throughout, with no signs of damage or patchwork. Original metal, honestly presented.

The chrome is in excellent condition across the front bumper, grille, bezels, mirrors and door handles. The rear bumper and taillights are equally clean. The door jambs are solid painted metal. The convertible power top is in like-new condition with correct black Mopar grain. The windshield is crystal clear. Magnum wheels are fitted, mounted on BFG redline radial tyres that complete the period-correct look.

The interior
Most Road Runners were bench seat, column-shift cars. This one is not. The bucket seats and centre console are correct and in excellent condition, and the 4-speed shifter coming out of that console makes the cockpit feel exactly as a performance car of this era should. The upholstery, door panels and carpet are all in genuinely nice shape -- unabused, tidy and honest throughout. The dash is uncut and intact. The instrument panel presents well. The original AM 8-track radio plays clearly through the factory dual dash speakers. All six interior lights work, including the one above the ignition. A full set of original seat belts is present, along with new Road Runner floor mats.

The drivetrain
The 383 Magnum V8 is numbers-matching to the car, confirmed by the VIN on the core support, the fender tag, and two build sheets. The 4-speed manual transmission is also VIN-matching. The engine compartment is completely honest -- stock manifolds, valve covers, restored carburettor and air cleaner, all correctly finished in Mopar orange. It is spotless. Power steering and power disc brakes were specified from new, both of which are uncommon options on a Road Runner and both of which are fully functional.

The underside is equally impressive. Original dry metal throughout, clean floor pans and frame rails, no patchwork, factory undercoating. The exhaust runs correct Chrysler mufflers with new tailpipes. Everything underneath is as it should be.

The car drives as well as it presents. It shifts smoothly, stops straight, rides properly and accelerates without hesitation. This is not a car that needs anything. It is ready to drive.
