1970 Shelby GT500 Convertible

The Last of Its Kind – 1970 Shelby GT500 Convertible
428 SCJ V8 · Automatic Transmission · Clearwater Aqua Poly · Dutch Registration PM-26-08
Pedal to the Metal Muscle Cars proudly presents this 1970 Shelby GT500 Convertible, one of the rarest and most collectible Mustangs ever built. With its original 428 cubic inch Super Cobra Jet V8, automatic transmission, and iconic Clearwater Aqua Poly paint with Shelby striping, this GT500 represents the pinnacle of American muscle in open-top style.

The Legend of the GT500
From 1967 to 1970, the Shelby GT500 defined Ford’s performance lineup. Conceived by racing legend Carroll Shelby, the GT500 was more than a Mustang—it was a factory-built, race-inspired street machine. By 1970, regulations and insurance costs ended the era, making final-year convertibles extraordinarily rare. Out of just 3,204 GT500s produced for 1969–70, this car—production number 3194—is believed to be one of the last 15 convertibles ever built, and possibly the very last. A true collector’s piece and iconic Shelby Mustang.

The Car
Finished in factory-correct Clearwater Aqua Poly, this GT500 perfectly showcases the aggressive yet elegant lines of this legendary convertible. Original Shelby side striping, a black interior, and 15-inch 5-spoke Shelby wheels complete the authentic look. The car has been professionally restored inside and out, including meticulous attention to the undercarriage by Pedal to the Metal (PTTM), with every detail from factory markings to finishes preserved. Mechanically, it’s strong-running, smooth, and ready to enjoy.
