The last of its kind - THE 1970 SHELBY GT500 CONVERTIBLE

One of the rarest and most collectible muscle cars of all time, beautifully restored and now available for purchase!

POWERED BY THE LEGENDARY ORIGINAL 428 CUBIC INCH SUPER COBRA JET V8 ENGINE, MATED TO AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. FINISHED IN STUNNING CLEARWATER AQUA POLY WITH SHELBY STRIPING AND 5-SPOKE ORIGINAL SHELBY WHEELS – THIS GT500 IS THE PEAK OF AMERICAN MUSCLE WITH OPEN-AIR STYLE.

THE LEGEND OF THE GT500
From 1967 through 1970, the Shelby GT500 stood at the pinnacle of Ford’s performance lineup. Born from the vision of racing legend Carroll Shelby, the GT500 was more than just a Mustang—it was a factory-built, race-inspired street machine. By 1970, increasing regulations and insurance costs led to the end of an era, making these final-year convertibles extraordinarily rare. Out of just 3,204 GT500s built for the 1969–70 model years, this car—production number 3194—is one of the last 15 ever made and believed to be the very last convertible GT500 ever produced.
A true collector's item and piece of Shelby history.

THE CAR
This breathtaking 1970 Shelby GT500 Convertible is finished in factory-correct Clearwater Aqua Poly, a color that perfectly highlights the aggressive yet elegant lines of this drop-top muscle icon. Complemented by original Shelby side striping, a black interior, and 15-inch 5-spoke Shelby wheels, this GT500 radiates vintage presence.
This car presents beautifully inside and out. The underside has undergone a meticulous professional restoration here at Pedal to the Metal (PTTM), with attention to every detail from factory-correct markings to finishes. The rest of the car was restored earlier and remains in excellent condition, with a strong-running engine, smooth transmission, and fantastic road manners.

THE EXTERIOR
Clearwater Aqua Poly is one of the most desirable Shelby colors, and this car wears it proudly. The fiberglass body components fit cleanly, and the convertible top is power-operated, functioning smoothly with excellent fit and tension. Chrome bumpers and trim are in superb condition, adding to the car’s head-turning appeal.

THE ENGINE
Beneath the hood lies the heart of this beast: the original 428 Super Cobra Jet V8 engine, known for its massive torque and unmistakable rumble. Paired with an automatic transmission, the GT500 delivers both brutal power and effortless cruising ability. It starts with ease, idles strong, and roars to life under throttle—just as Carroll Shelby intended.

THE INTERIOR
Step inside to find a well-preserved black vinyl interior, complete with Shelby badging, woodgrain trim, and factory instrumentation. The cockpit exudes period-correct style and comfort, with supportive bucket seats and a center console. It’s the perfect blend of muscle and refinement.
