Corvette build between 1970 and 1972 Only 53 ZR1 optioned Corvettes for 1972 they say 20 in total 14 coupes and 6 Convertibles, until today all Forum or Registry 's didn't know anything about this one, all 6 Convertibles where unknown, today we show op with the first and only one known to exist for the 72 Convertible ZR1, we have all documentation complete, such as the Tank sticker and the GM order information sheet from Canada that also states its the only ordered trough Canada, this is a real gem and rare car, that needs to be in a collection or a museum.

What means the ZR1 option? 

Lets start with the base LT1 Corvette for 1972:

The legendary LT1 power plant was introduced in 1970 in the Camaro and Corvette. It was rated at 370 horsepower, but by 1972 the compression ratio was lowered and the horsepower rating was changed from SAE gross to SAE net and the horsepower dropped to 255. This was the last year that Corvette came with chrome bumpers. Total Corvette production was 27,004 with 6,508 being convertibles. Total LT1 production was 1,741 units.

The ZR1 Option for 1972: 

The ZR1 was the heavy-duty version of the LT1, a high-winding small block. In addition to the LT1, the ZR1 package included an M22 “Rock Crusher” 4-speed heavy duty transmission, J56 Heavy duty power brakes, J50 Power Brakes, transistorized ignition, special heavy-duty aluminum radiator, F41 HD suspension that included special springs, shocks and front and rear sway bars. This car is dressed in Targa Blue over Black interior.

ZR1 Engine specifications:

At the heart of the ZR1 concept was the outstanding LT1 350/255hp block, whose understated factory rating was the result of a heavy-duty 4-bolt main bottom end, forged crank, rods and pistons, free breathing heads, a solid lifter cam, dual-plane aluminum intake manifold and 780 cfm Holley 4-barrel carburetor.
